The resonance structure of Naphthalene and Anthracene

Organic chemistry

The resonance structure of Naphthalene and Anthracene:-

Naphthalene has 2 carbon atoms shared by 2 rings anthracene and phenolphthalein have 2 pair of carbon atom showed by 2 rings each pair being shared by a separate pair of ring.

Organic chemistry

Unlike benzene, the C - C bond length in naphthalene is not uniform.

Organic chemistry

The resonance energy of naphthalene is 60 l Cal/mole which is nearly double that of benzene (36 kcal/mole) indicating that it is less aromatic than benzene.

Anthracene:-

Organic chemistry

Unlike benzene in anthracene, the bond length is not uniform.

Organic chemistry

The resonance energy of anthracene is 84 kcal/mole with an avg of 28 kcal/mole per ring which is much less than the resonance energy of benzene (36 kcal/mole) indicating that it is less aromatic in nature compound to benzene.
