Acidity of Alkynes

Organic chemistry

Acidity of Alkynes:-

Alkynes and acetylenes are acidic in nature because they always readily donate proton to strong bases.

Organic chemistry

Acetylene is a stronger acid than ethylene, which in turn is a stronger acid than ethane (Alkyne), the acidity of acetylene or 1 alkyne can be explained by the atomic orbital description of the carbon-hydrogen (C - H) bonds.

"S" Electrons are closer to the nucleus than the "P" electrons, the more "S" character there is O - S character the closer the electrons of the bond are to the nucleus. the amount of "S" character in a various hybrid orbital is as follows.

Organic chemistry

The "S" character of the carbon-hydrogen bond of acetylene 1 alkynes is greater than that of alkane carbon-hydrogen bond (Sp2 – S bond) Thus electrons of the carbon-hydrogen bond in 1 alkyne.
